I’ve just finished a routine 14 point health check on an Acer Aspire SA60 desktop running good old XP Home Edition. Pretty run of the mill stuff really. A solid old workhorse of a machine, used primarily for a bit of internet surfing, email and the odd bit of document creation, which had slowed down over the years and was now taking an age to boot up.
A typical scenario really. Reducing the number of unnecessary programs set to automatically run at start up, a clean up of old files and a quick defragmentation of the disk put a bit of a jaunt back into the Acer’s performance. Once some key applications had been upgraded to their latest versions to ensure better security and performance – including Internet Explorer which was still at version 6 when the machine came in – a full virus and spyware scan followed. Then she was good to go.
