I’ve recently finished updating a Toshiba Satellite L30-101 laptop which came into the Surgery last week. No specific problems were identified beyond sluggish performance. Running Vista with only 1gb of RAM is never going to be a recipe for lightning speed. An upgrade to 2gb certainly improved matters. However, the real problem lay with the fact that this machine had not received any regular Windows updates over the years. With Vista in particular, its really important to ensure that you keep your computer bang up to date, which means to Service Pack 2 and beyond. This Toshiba wasn’t even at Service Pack 1. If you don’t keep up to date, you leave your machine much more vulnerable to malware infection and missing out on important bug fixes. Go on, don’t ignore those update prompts. Check for essential windows updates today and keep your machine current.
